Bridges

Bridges are applied to the sides of gaps in the mouth that form when teeth are lost or extracted.  The teeth adjacent to the gap are referred to as abutment teeth.  If you have such a gap in your mouth, don’t continue to suffer in silence.  Food particles and bacteria move into such openings and wreak havoc on dental health as well as overarching biological health.

The solution is for our dentist to add a dental bridge to the gap in between your teeth.  The dentist will carefully shape your abutment teeth in preparation for the addition of dental bridge.   A local anesthetic is applied to guarantee you are comfortable throughout the entirety of the procedure.  If necessary, a dental implant will be used to anchor the dental bridge.  However, dental implants are typically only used if the abutment teeth are not formidable enough to provide support for the bridge.  Four different types of bridges are available, each of which has unique benefits.  Bridges are supported by the aforementioned abutment teeth as well as fake teeth, referred to as pontics that fill in the spaces and also attach to crowns.

Our dentist, Michael Fizer, DDS, often uses temporary bridges consisting of filling material to safeguard teeth against damage during the period of time in which the permanent bridge is made.  The placement of the permanent bridge is as painless as possible as a local anesthetic is provided at the start of the appointment.  If you have a missing tooth, several missing teeth, require tooth extraction or have significant gum disease, you are a candidate for a dental bridge.  Reach out to us today at (304) 252-7311 to schedule an appointment at our dental practice where we will determine if you can benefit from a dental bridge.
