Crowns

The application of dental crowns is easier and less painful than most patients assume.  The crown process begins with an examination of the tooth in question.  The dentist will likely take an x-ray of the tooth.  It might also be necessary to take a mold of the tooth prior to adding the crown.  The outer portion of the tooth in question is filed down and removed.  A dental impression of the trimmed tooth and surrounding teeth are made.

A temporary crown is put into position.  The impression is transmitted to a lab where the crown is made.  This part of the crown-making process will take some time.  The temporary crown is removed after the permanent crown is ready.  The permanent crown is cemented into position, serving as a protective barrier atop the damaged tooth.  Crowns also serve the purpose of beautifying unsightly and damaged teeth, enhancing the smile aesthetic all the more.  If you have one or several damaged teeth, reach out to us at (304) 252-7311 to schedule an appointment where you will learn more about dental crowns and get a sense as to whether you are a suitable candidate for this dental restoration.
